vase, libation
Libation vase or or 'hes' vase in marl clay. 12th Dynasty. 196mm high. These were used to pour out liquid offerings of beer or water. Originally part of the Rustafjaell collection purchased by Wellcome in 1906. Hieroglyphs in this shape ('hes') also meant 'praise' or 'favour'.
