Crucifixion with the Virgin and Saint John
This panel demonstrates the transition during the 13th century from the static imagery of Greek icon painting to a new expressive Italian style. It was painted either by a Greek (or Cypriot) artist in southern Italy, or by a southern Italian imitating the Greek style.
