Part of the Ruins of Ravensworth Castle
Description: Not much of Kirby Ravensworth Castle remains standing, although scattered earthworks and rubble on the ground shows it was once quite extensive. After the castle was abandoned in the 16th century, it was used as a quarry for the building of Ravensworth village. This 14th century gatehouse and adjoining archway is the only above ground ruin. It is entered by a small doorway and originally had a staircase running up to the first and second floors which retain their fireplaces.
