Decorative plate
Théodore Deck was known primarily for his experimental techniques. For this plate, he was inspired by the goldground mosaics that he had seen in the Basilica of San Marco during a trip to Venice. This portrait of a young woman is Romantic, yet has all the realism of a photograph.
