The savant wears a yellow silk (?) banyan with a pattern of pink roses. On the floor to his right are two flasks containing foetuses. On a shelf above are glass vessels containing various liquids. The suggestion is that the couple are asking whether their marriage would be propitious, or, if already married, when they would have children.
