Roman inscription from Tynemouth Castle
For this drawing, Major Durnford seems to have reused a sheet removed from a ledger or account book, which has the names of workmen working at the Castle. Most of them were earning a guinea a day.The drawing shows a stone tablet found at Tynemouth Castle in 1783. It is inscribed with the name of Maximinus, a soldier of the sixth legion.
