Nicolas Held, the uncle of the contributor's grandfather's sister, was born on July 28, 1870 in Choloy (Meurthe-et-Moselle). He was taken prisoner in Thionville on November 6, 1914 and then transported to the Darmstadt camp. He was released in August 1915. He wrote two letters to his sister who lived in Laxou, near Nancy. The first, dated February 11, 1915, was sent from the Darmstadt prison camp.…
