James Madden and John Royce
John Royce and James Madden
James Madden acted as a message runner during World War I. He joined up at the age of 15. His number was 5975. I brought three medals that he was awarded. I also brought a bullet that he kept as a souvenir and a Prussian Iron Cross.
John Royce features in the photo taken in France, of six soldiers and one Frenchman. He is the soldier with the cigarette in his mouth.
