Edgar Zech came from a Frankfurt officer family and was trained in the Berlin cadet institute. Even before the war he was stationed as a career officer near Posen. During his time in Posen he was entitled to a horse as an officer. He married and at first only had daughters. When he reported the birth of a daughter to his stable boy, he only replied: "Major will have to try again." The Major ended …
