Two oval irons from pattens - wooden shoes that were used by most countrywomen as overshoes to keep their feet out of the mud in the farmyard and around the dairy. Each iron has two nail hols at one end and one at the other. They are part of the Saint Mary Bourne Collection, from the village of Saint Mary Bourne in Hampshire.
