Brustbild des Domdekans Dr. Johann Baptist von Hirscher

Luz created this portrait for the seventieth birthday of Johann Baptist von Hirscher, who had been appointed Dean of the Cathedral Chapter in Freiburg in 1850. Hirscher supported the painter financially and spiritually throughout his life, which is probably why Luz gratefully referred to him on the reverse of the painting as his "magnanimous protector".
